Founder & Developer

Hi, I'm Shaojie Gong — the developer behind MakeLineArt. The project started in early 2026 from a frustration I kept running into: every time I needed to convert a photo into a tattoo stencil, a cross-stitch chart, or a scroll-saw pattern for a hobby project, the available tools either demanded a sign-up, watermarked the output, or quietly uploaded my files to a server I knew nothing about. I'm an engineer by training, so I decided to build the tool I wanted to use myself — one that runs entirely in the browser, treats your photos as your private business, and stays free without strings attached.

Everything you see on this site — the 20 conversion tools, the multi-language content, the algorithms behind each effect — is built and maintained by me. I respond to every contact-form email personally, usually within a day or two. If something doesn't work, or you have an idea for a tool I haven't built yet, please reach out at gongshaojie12@gmail.com or open an issue on GitHub.

Our Mission

MakeLineArt was born from a simple observation: creative professionals and hobbyists around the world need to convert photographs into sketches, stencils, and patterns — but most tools either cost money, require downloads, or upload your private images to remote servers.

We set out to build something different. MakeLineArt provides 20 specialized photo-to-sketch conversion tools that run entirely in your web browser. There are no server uploads, no accounts, no subscriptions, and no hidden costs. Whether you are a tattoo artist preparing client stencils, a woodworker creating scroll saw patterns, a parent making coloring pages, or a cross-stitch enthusiast designing your next project, MakeLineArt gives you professional-grade results in seconds.

Our Technology

Every conversion on MakeLineArt happens on your device using WebAssembly (Wasm) and OpenCV.js — the same computer vision library used by researchers and engineers worldwide, compiled to run at near-native speed inside your browser.

This architecture means your images are never uploaded anywhere. They stay on your computer or phone from start to finish. When you close the tab, all data is gone. This is not just a feature — it is the foundation of how MakeLineArt works.

Open Source & Transparency

Every conversion happens entirely in your browser. No images are uploaded to any server — your files never leave your device. You can verify this yourself: open your browser Developer Tools, switch to the Network tab, and convert an image. You will see zero outbound requests carrying your data.

This architecture guarantees privacy by design, not just by policy. There are no server logs of your images, no temporary cloud storage, and no third-party processing. What you create stays yours alone.

What We Offer

MakeLineArt includes 20 purpose-built conversion tools, each optimized for a specific creative use case: tattoo stencil creation, laser engraving preparation, cross-stitch pattern generation, scroll saw pattern design, coloring page creation, manga-style screentone effects, pixel art conversion, architectural blueprint sketching, and more. Each tool uses specialized algorithms tuned for its niche — not a one-size-fits-all filter.
